Summer Cold

Published by admin | Filed under Uncategorized

A summer cold has been going through our family.  I started showing symptoms on Sunday with a sore throat.  Hopefully, with rest and hydration it won’t last long.  I’d like to be well enough to get a good track workout tomorrow morning.

13 mile long run

Published by admin | Filed under Chicago 2007

It was a humid run this morning.  I ran 13 miles at 7:57 mpm average pace.  I was hoping on running marathon pace of 7:25 mpm pace this morning but the humidity slowed me down.  According to the FIRST training schedule, I supposed to run 7:40 mpm.
Running in the humidity caused me feet to be [...]

I know where you live

Every morning @ 5 am my wife and I are awoken by a cardinal pirched up on our neighbors roof. The cardinal faces our open window and sings. Normally we would enjoy this song, but at 5 am it’s annoying.
This morning I was telling Scott about our Cardinal woes. He just morning he [...]

Great tempo run today

Published by admin | Filed under Chicago 2007

Scott and I ran a 1 mile warm up run then a 7 mile tempo run. We ran an average pace of 7:37 mpm for the entire 8 miles. I felt really strong.
I’m looking forward to a 13 mile long run this weekend. The schedule is to run the 13 miles at [...]

Intervals - Run hard now pays big dividends

Published by admin | Filed under Chicago 2007

This morning Brian, Scott and I met at the track. We ran 6 x 800 meter intervals at 6:20 mpm pace. We rested 1:30 minutes between intervals. The last two intervals were brutal. I don’t think I could have run another interval at that pace. It was all I could [...]

Gained 2.5 pounds over the weekend.

Published by admin | Filed under Weight Loss

On Friday AM I weighed 177.2 pounds. I thought it was high.  Over the weekend I ate well, but didn’t over do it.  No gorging on high calorie foods.
On Saturday I ran the fasted 20 miles (3000+ calories) ever.
Then on Sunday I cycled 15 fast miles.
This morning I weighed 179.6 pounds. How could I have [...]

So, you think you’re fast

Published by admin | Filed under Uncategorized

Just when I feel like I am running fast intervals at the track, I read this.
“Three-time U.S. 1,500m champion Alan Webb on Saturday broke the American record in the mile, clocking 3:46.91 at the Atletiek Vlaanderenmeet in Brasschaa, Belgium”

Best Long Run Yet

Published by admin | Filed under Chicago 2007

Yesterday morning, Brian, Scott, Mike(who drove up from Springfield just for the run) and I met at the trail access at 5:30 am for a long run.  It was a beautiful morning with temps in the high 50s F., low humidity and lots of sun.
My goal was to run 45 seconds per mile over my [...]

177.2 pounds

Published by admin | Filed under Weight Loss

The scale said that I gained .2 pounds since the previous Friday morning.  I feel more fit, but I haven’t lost weight.  I think the cycling is building more leg muscle at the same rate I’m losing fat.  Also, I think a single day view of the scale is not a true indication of weight.  [...]

Thursday Tempo

Published by admin | Filed under Uncategorized

I’m catching up on some ports from the past several days.
On Thursday, Brian and I ran a 5 mile tempo run at projected marathon pace.  We both ran it very fast.  My pace was 7:27 for the five miles, which is the pace I hope to run Chicago.   The tempo run was difficult.  At the [...]
