Adventures in Marathon Training

Successful 20 miles

Published by admin | Filed under Chicago 2007

On Saturday morning, Brian and I ran our 20 miles on the Gilman trail.

I ran the 20 miles slower than I planned, 8:20 mpm.  However, I finished and felt good.

Brian ran 19 miles and walked the last 1 mile.  It has been the first time he has run that distance since last Fall at the Chicago Marathon.

We have one more 20 miler left in two weeks.  I think i might make it a 22 or 23 mile run.  It just feels good to know that I have that under my belt before the marathon.

This week, Scott is vacationing at Glacier National Park.  Brian and I are going to run our planned runs, but I am going to run a little slower pace.  In addition, I am going to run junk miles on the days we don’t have planned runs.  These are the days were I just enjoy the activity of running.  No time or distance goal.  Just run.  I miss just running.

My knee is sore but not getting worse.  I’m going to suffer through it, then give it a break after the Marathon.  Ice and Aleve are my friends.  I’m also trying a pair for Spenco Orthodics I bought last Spring.  Over the weekend, I tried to heat them up in boiling wate to mold them better to my feet.  It didn’t work.  I must be doing something wrong.  The plastic wouldn’t mold.  It just sprung back to it’s original shape.

Speed work tomorrow.  Ugh.
