Adventures in Marathon Training

5 weeks to go

Wow. Only 5 weeks(39 days) until the Chicago Marathon. This morning Brian and I ran our speed training. The gates were locked at the track so we decided to drive to Violet Patch Park and run north along the river on the trail. We ran one mile warm up, then three 1 mile intervals each under 6:45 mpm.

I was very unmotivated to run this morning and almost went back to bed after we found the gates locked. However, both Brian ran faster than our goal pace. It felt good to look at my Garmin and be surprised that I was running faster than I expected. Also, the miles seemed to go fast. At the half mile point of each interval I felt like we had just started. Maybe I am more fit than I thought.

Brian had a slightly higher goal pace than I. When we started our third interval, Brian took off ahead. We has running well and not looking at his Garmin for the pace. I was running behind him watching the pace hover around 6:25 - 6:35 mpm. He was flying.

I’m going to run a leisurely 4 miles tomorrow morning. Then 10 miles at marathon pace of 7:25 mpm on Thursday. I’ll run another leisurely run on Friday.

August 28th, 2007.
